The Healing Art

One of Troika's three facets is its healing side. Arthur was a follower of the Japanese belief that with great power comes great responsibility and taught, "If you can break it, you should be able to heal it." This stemmed from Arthur's forty-plus years in martial arts, but an equal number of years in the healing arts.

Arthur studied at the Boston Shiatsu Center, learning bodywork and an art called Sotai from Kiiko Matsumoto. At one point, Arthur was one of only six people in the United States qualified to teach Sotai. In addition, he studied acupuncture while living in Hawaii, in the traditional Chinese language. In addition to that, he apprenticed in Boston and later practiced as a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor with BJ Wang in the Wang Family style of medicine, which has been practiced for over 600 years.

This unique experience of bodywork, body energy work, and plant medicine gave him incredible insight into the human body, especially when paired with the physics of martial and everyday movement. He understood the workings of the human body on an elevated level and taught the responsibility of caring for an opponent, the ethics of power, and self-responsibility for maintaining one's own body vessel and compassion in caring for others.
